NCBT manages a Workplace Volunteer Programme. The purpose is to integrate immigrant graduates and students into a community based environment whereby their specialised skills are used in a real work place environment. IT volunteers work in a technical support role and volunteers from the Business Sector offer their resources in either admin, accounting, customer service, and marketing support.
This scheme has already proved to be a real success and the outcomes have been mutually beneficial for both parties, as per these quotes.
"I am a computer technician, working at Mt Roskill Primary and maintain more than 150 computers. Two students from Newton College of Business & Technology (NCBT) have been working here 2 days a week to help with the administration and updating of the network. They have been great, showing a good knowledge of how networks should work and also Troubleshooting. They have helped me a lot. I will be recommending them to any employers who need computer technicians." Allan Faid
"We at Bailey Road School, Mt Wellington are fortunate to be a part of this volunteer programme. The volunteer that is working at our school is a highly
skilled and dedicated IT professional. His assistance in cloning PCs and technical knowledge has been a tremendous benefit to our school. He has certainly
saved our school some real dollars – IT services don’t come cheap and this volunteer programme has really come to our aid from a financial point of view.
Thank you to NCBT for this volunteer programme. We would easily recommend your students to any organization." Vincent Naidoo “I’ve been very impressed with the commitment and ability of the volunteers that have worked under my instruction at Alfriston Primary School. The volunteers
save me a lot of time which means I have been able to focus on the high end of the project. I understand the importance of migrants gaining NZ
workplace experience to secure themselves employment in their field. I will definitely continue with this programme.” Alex Locatelli, Computer Services.
This Voluntary scheme assists immigrants assimilate into the NZ workplace. Immigrants need the NZ workplace experience to gain related employment opportunities. This programme provides huge benefits to communities whose budgets are stretched and need free skilled human resources.
Students make themselves available onsite, dependant upon the operational needs of the organization. Different arrangements are needed for differing business needs, and detailed measures are arranged accordingly.
Students have graduated from University in their home country and are now studying at Newton College Business Technology to gain a recognized NZQA Diploma in IT or Business. All students speak English, and have either completed or are in the process of completing their compulsory Accent Reduction component of the course.
